Red Funnel is running to a heavily reduced ‘commuter’ timetable on its Red Jet service from today (Monday), in response to falling passenger numbers.
The current lockdown has once again led to a reduction in the number of people crossing the Solent. As a result, Red Funnel has taken the decision to run just 7 crossings a day between West Cowes and Southampton.
Demand for the hi-speed service is down to be down around 60% and year-on-year passenger numbers are just 15% of what they were in November 2019.
The temporary timetable is as follows:
Meanwhile, Wightlink have completely suspended their Fastcat catamaran service between Ryde Pier Head and Portsmouth Harbour.
The cross-Solent operator decided to pull the service completely, on a temporary basis, in response to low passenger numbers. They say sometimes they are transporting less than 10 people on a crossing.
Hovertravel are continuing to run between Ryde and Southsea, but only in good weather.

I appreciate that the majority of people are working from home but all those that voiced against a fixed link should take a back step as this just goes to show how much of a reliance the islanders are on the ferry companies! So tell me how all those islanders that cannot work from home are supposed to get across the Solent and also are the ferry companies offering a rebate on the season tickets people hold!!
Not trying to worry islanders but the only two things that are working are hover and FLOATING BRIDGE we are all doomed
