50 jobs are becoming available at Amey as part of the new Isle of Wight Waste Recovery Park at Forest in Newport with anyone interested invited to a recruitment and information day.
The event is being held at Newclose Cricket Ground in Newport between 12:00 and 18:00 on Thursday 3rd May.
Full time positions, which include maintenance staff, mechanical technicians, machinery operators, weighbridge operators, static crane drivers and electricians, will be filled over a phased period from the summer.
Although the plant won’t be fully operational until 2019, full time staff will be needed as part of testing as construction enters the final phases for both the mechanical treatment and energy from waste elements of the Forest Road site.
The event will include the opportunity to find out more about each role, how to apply, start dates and benefits available to all employees working for the company. These include on-going training, discounts with a huge range of retailers, holiday entitlement and how Amey supports the local community.
In total, 50 positions will become available. These are:
- Energy Recovery Facility Lead Operator (x5)
- Energy Recovery Facility Electrician (x5)
- Energy Recovery Facility Technician (x5)
- Mechanical Treatment Technician (x5)
- Weighbridge Controller (x3)
- Material Analysis Technician (x3)
- Mechanical Treatment Lead Operator (x3)
- Mechanical Treatment Tipping Hall Attendant (x3)
- Mechanical Treatment Loader/Baler Operator (x3)
- Mechanical Treatment Static Crane Operator (x3)
- Mechanical Treatment Picker (x12)
Paul Southall, Account Director for Amey on the Isle of Wight, said:
“Amey is working in partnership with the Isle of Wight Council to provide the state of the art Isle of Wight Waste Recovery Park on Forest Road in Newport, which will be one of the UK’s leading facilities when it fully opens next year. The plant is a key part of Amey’s 25-year contract with the council to provide waste and recycling services on the Isle of Wight.

The ground has a large onsite car park and a nearby bus stop served by the Route 3 Southern Vectis bus between Newport and Ryde. Refreshments will also be available.
