Rapanui/Teemill has donated £1,000 towards the scheme at Stroud Recreation Ground, with Freshwater Parish Council describing the contribution as another example of local businesses backing the long-running community project.
The Parish Council has also confirmed that requirements relating to all 12 planning conditions have now been submitted, including a drainage plan and detailed landscaping proposals.
The drainage work is intended to help manage surface water around the recreation ground and could also benefit nearby residents by reducing the potential for water-related problems.
Landscaping proposals include planting and biodiversity measures designed to help the new facility sit more naturally within Stroud Recreation Ground.
Once complete, the skatepark and pump track will cater for skateboarders, scooter riders, BMX riders, roller skaters and other wheeled sports, from beginners through to more experienced users.
Freshwater Parish Council Chair Kirsty Gibson said:
“We are extremely grateful to Rapanui/Teemill for their generous £1,000 donation and for supporting our vision for the new skatepark and pump track.
“Every contribution has helped us get closer to this point, and it is fantastic to see such strong community and local business support for the project.
“We are now incredibly excited to be on the verge of starting the build. There has been so much work behind the scenes to get us here, and submitting the final planning condition requirements, including the drainage and landscaping plans, is another major step forward.
“This project is about much more than building a skatepark. It is about bringing our community together and creating a fantastic facility that can be enjoyed by people of all ages and abilities.”
Tom Marriott, Head of Brand at Rapanui, said:
“Rapanui is proud to continue our support for the Freshwater Skatepark and Pump Track.
“As a values-based business built right here in Freshwater, with around 150 jobs across our HQ at Acorn Springworks and our factory in East Cowes, investing in the community we’re part of has always mattered to us as much as the business itself.
“We’ve backed this project since its earliest days, because we believe every young person on the Island deserves a positive, active space to grow their confidence and build friendships.
“Seeing the project now on the verge of construction is brilliant news, and we’re delighted this donation helps get Freshwater’s kids that bit closer to shredding it.”
The project has been supported through fundraising events, donations, sponsorship and grants, with residents, businesses, families and local organisations all contributing.
Freshwater Parish Council says further updates will be issued as the scheme progresses towards construction.
