Pupils from St Helens Primary School had the chance to take a first glimpse of their new library this month – thanks to Southern Vectis.
The Isle of Wight operator is donating one of its former Wiltshire and Dorset buses, to be filled with books and permanently placed at the school as a resource for youngsters in all years to browse and enjoy.
Some of the children recently visited Southern Vectis’ depot in Newport to take a closer look.
Southern Vectis’ depot engineer, Julian Rose said:
“We were delighted to welcome pupils and show them the proposed library bus. We invited them along to see our workshop and check out the bus inside out – and even underneath. There were some very excited faces when they got to go through our special bus wash too.
“The children are now busy designing the interior layout and the paint scheme for the outside of the bus, and we’re looking forward to seeing their ideas. It’s an absolute pleasure to be able to offer them the bus.
“We’re always on the lookout for ways to help and support the local community here on the island – and this is a great opportunity to do just that.”
Jane Loader, headteacher at St Helens Primary School added:
“We are so grateful to Southern Vectis for all the support they are giving us with our exciting Library Bus project. It is our dream to give all the children in the school – and in the wider St Helens community – a wonderful library filled with exciting and engaging books, and Southern Vectis is helping make this dream a reality.
“The children who went on the recent visit were so thrilled to see their bus for the first time. Thank you Southern Vectis!”
