Proposed school term dates for the 2027/28 academic year on the Isle of Wight have been revealed.
Councillors are being asked to approve the recommended calendar, which is for the school year starting 1st September 2027 and running through to 28th July 2028.
It is proposed that the existing 2-week October half-term is retained, after it was first introduced following a public consultation for the 2019/20 school year. It has been adopted each year since.
Ahead of setting the 2027/28 calendar, headteachers were informally invited to share their views on whether the 2-week October half term should continue. A total of 11 responses were received, but no clear majority preference emerged. As a result, a full public consultation will not be undertaken at this time.
If approved by the Isle of Wight Council’s Cabinet later this month, schoolchildren will have the following holidays in 2026/27:
- October half term – break up Friday 15th October 2027, returning Monday 1st November 2027
- Christmas – break up Friday 17th December 2027 returning Tueday 4th January 2028
- February half term – break up Friday 11th February 2028 returning Monday 21st February 2028
- Easter – break up on Thursday 31st March 2028 returning Tuesday 18th April 2028
- May half term – break up Friday 26th May 2028 returning Monday 5th June 2028
The Summer holidays would begin on Friday 28th July 2028, with children returning to school in the first week of September 2028 as normal. The exact date won’t be known until March 2027.
