A total of 32 Wightlink FastCat sailings between Ryde Pier Head and Portsmouth Harbour have been cancelled this weekend due to a mechanical issue on board Wight Ryder.
The disruption will affect services throughout Saturday (22nd August) and Sunday (23rd August), with 17 departures from each side of the Solent removed from the timetable across the 2 days.
From Portsmouth Harbour, the cancelled sailings on both Saturday and Sunday are at 10:45, 11:45, 12:45, 13:45, 14:45, 15:45, 16:45 and 17:45.
The 18:15 departure from Portsmouth Harbour remains scheduled to operate.
From Ryde Pier Head, the cancelled sailings on both Saturday and Sunday are at 11:15, 12:15, 13:15, 14:15, 15:15, 16:15, 17:15 and 18:15.
The cancellations come as a result of a mechanical issue onboard the Wight Ryder FastCat.
Wightlink has confirmed that all customers booked to travel on affected services have been notified and moved onto alternative sailings.
Other scheduled FastCat crossings remain in the timetable, meaning passengers will still be able to travel between Ryde Pier Head and Portsmouth Harbour throughout the weekend.
Those planning to use the service are being advised to check the latest timetable before travelling.

Wightlink has apologised for the disruption and thanked customers for their patience and understanding.
The so-called summer timetable is a complete joke. Remember Wightlink now adds a surcharge to summer tickets. Of course the psychopaths in the boardroom aren’t prepared to charter in anything at short notice or commission another ferry to maintain service levels, once again they are insulated from the complaints of locals. Is little Keir Mather going to save us? Of course not he signed off the emissions surcharge on the car ferry. You know at some point we’re just going to have to take back control, with no compensation at all for the owners.
Probably due to less tourists coming to the island,
is it me, or is tourism quiet on the island this summer.
Why pay extortionate ferry fares when you can stay in Pompey
or go a few miles up the Road to Sussex or Dorset.
it’s you numbers are up everywhere,even the trains have gone exceeded their predicted numbers,and we have had best pre-covid season ,totally at one of ity you about ferry fares but it’s not put a lot of.

British Rail ran a wonderful service at excellent prices
and the boats met the trains.

Neither the railways nor the Solent ferries were subject to the 3 day week electricity restrictions brought in by the Heath government. On the railways the only significant industrial action overtime bans/work to rule was in 1972 again under Heath and continued for around 6 weeks.
Labour have never been any good at running the
country.

The Government were responsible for strikes and 3 day weeks

Sealink were great, cheap and reliable, 1000 passenger capacity on the ferry, bar and restaurant service and before the Beeching cuts, two trains to meet the ferry on the pier head platforms, one to Cowes via Newport and one to Sandown, plus the tram down to the Esplanade.
