The Isle of Wight Council has revealed the proposed school term dates for the 2025/26 academic year, which look set to be rubber-stamped next week. Local families can now start to think about planning their holidays for the latter part of next year and into 2026. It is proposed that Isle of Wight children will head back to school for the start of the academic year on 1st September 2025, with the year ending on Monday 27th July 2026. Oddly, this means pupils will return to school for just 1 day before breaking up for the Summer. The setting of the 2025/2026 calendar has not made any changes to the October half term, which will remain at 2 weeks. The Christmas break will be between 19th December 2025 and 5th January 2026 and will include 3 weekends.
- October half term – break up Friday 17th October 2025, returning 3rd November 2025
- Christmas – break up Friday 19th December 2025 returning Monday 5th January 2026
- February half term – break up Friday 13th February 2025 returning Monday 23rd February 2026
- Easter – break up on Friday 27th March 2026 returning Tuesday 13th April 2026
- May half term – break up Friday 22nd May 2026 returning Monday 1st June 2026 (plus 4th May 2026 off for the bank holiday)
The school year calendar has been put together following a consultation with schools and professional bodies, but this only resulted in 2 responses – both from school staff and both of which were positive to the proposed timetable. The first day of the Autumn Term in September 2026 will not be determined until the 2026/27 timetable has been consulted upon and approved in March 2025.
