Firefighters from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are tackling a property fire in the Oakfield area of Ryde this morning (Monday).
2 appliances from Ryde have been mobilised to the scene on Oakfield High Street, where smoke can be seen issuing from the doors and windows of a residential property.
Crews have moved quickly to prepare fire extinguishing equipment, including hose reel jets, and gain access to the property in the first few minutes of being on scene.
UPDATE @ 10:28 – Firefighters are utilising 4 sets of breathing apparatus and 2 hose reel jets to tackle the fire, which has been located within the kitchen. A search of the home for anyone who may be trapped within it is underway with a main jet and a covering jet prepared for use should they be required.
A third appliance from Newport has now also arrived on the scene near the junction with Woodhill Close, alongside colleagues from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service and the Police.
The road is currently impassable as emergency crews work to make safe the scene and extinguish the fire. As a result, all traffic including buses is having to divert via Alexandra Road.
UPDATE @ 10:50 – Firefighters have successfully extinguished the fire, which is believed to have been contained to the ground floor kitchen of the property. It has been confirmed that no one was inside the property when the fire broke out and with no injuries reported, paramedics are being stood down.
Island Echo understands the homeowner was shopping in town when the devastating situation developed.
Positive Pressure Ventilation (PPV) has been set up at the entranceway to the home to help with the dispersal of smoke. BA crews are withdrawing from the property, with initial investigations now underway.
UPDATE @ 11:15 – The stop message has now been relayed back to fire control, with resources beginning to stand down from the incident.
