The discovery of a suspicious object on the beach at Ryde led to a call out for Coastguards this afternoon (Saturday).
Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team were tasked at 12:21 to carry out further investigations after a possible piece of ordnance was found by a member of the public to the west of Ryde Pier.
Photos and measurements were sent to Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) experts from the Royal Navy, who deemed the object to be safe on this occasion.
Police were alerted and attended the scene but their presence was not required.
The object has been removed and broken up to prevent future calls.
If you or someone else is in difficulty on the coast or at sea, or if you spot what you think may be unexploded ordnance, then dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard. Further safety information can be found at https://coastguardsafety.campaign.gov.uk/.
