Newport IW FC have gone to within 1 point of rivals 5th-placed East Cowes Vics in Wessex Division 1 by drawing with Fleetlands at Powder Monkey Park this afternoon (Saturday).
However, this was 2 points lost rather than a point gained as Port had led by a 2-goal margin against 10 men until the closing stages of the game.
The game began with Fleetlands defender Martin sent off for handball in the 10th minute.
Port took the lead in the 26th minute through the returning Joe Butcher, who converted a Ji Nash pass with a shot that was too strong for the goalkeeper to handle (0-1).
2 minutes later, Nash turned from provider to scorer after burying a Brad Young pass.

Port continued to create chances early in the 2nd half through the industry of Kai Grace on the right but without extending their lead.
The Coptermen pulled a goal back 6 minutes from full time through substitute Dan Petrov.
The home side then somehow found an equalising goal in the 2nd minute of injury time, headed in by the tallest player on the pitch: substitute Jamie Winter.
