The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance has airlifted a poorly patient from the West Wight to a specialist cardiac hospital in Portsmouth this lunchtime (Sunday).
At just gone 10:35, the yellow and green helicopter landed in the Norton area of Yarmouth in response to a medical emergency in the West Wight town.
Flying doctors were supported by paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.
The helicopter took off at around midday and has flown the patient – thought to be suffering a cardiac complaint – to the Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham, Portsmouth.

I hope the person is ok? That’s the main thing, we don’t need a fixed link, the helicopter is much faster.
Hope the person is ok? We do NOT need a fixed link, anyway the traffic could cause delays getting to the hospital.
Fixed link would have been no good Wight Fiber would have had the roads closed.
Hope the person is now feeling better and on the way to recovery thankyou to all the air ambulance crews.
just hope the patient will survive
Thank goodness we have the Air Ambulance.
Hope the person makes a full recovery.
Thoughts with all family and friends .

If you’re in the need of a helicopter transfer to a mainland hospital (prudent choice in any case), I don’t think you’re in the ‘poorly’ category…
I was taken to the Queen Alexandra Hospital for heart treatment, on discharge after 8 days of treatment I was told to make my own way back to the island. I had no change of cloths and no money on me only my phone. The excuse was that it was my fault I chose to live on the Isle of Wight. Surely repatriation should be the rule. The islands ambulance service was excellent but how can someone be expected to return from Portsmouth via public transport the day after having 3 stents placed into their heart.
I was also taken to QA after a heart attack. The Air ambulance flew me over to the hospital in a matter of minuets,
I also had three stents fitted. ,two on the Saturday morning, and one Monday morning. I was home that evening.
I was lucky that my son packed some clothes and money so i wasn’t stuck. Got Taxi to the ferry and was met on the island side to take me home. The air ambulance service was superb, cant thank them enough.
I find it extraordinary that somebody would say, ” its your fault you live on Isle of Wight, make your own way home ” But i was very lucky that i had family support to make things easy.
Hope that person is now ok
I was flown by coastguard helicopter to Southampton hospital, after a week on the stroke unit I was ambulanced back to St Mary’s. My friend had a similar experience to you. Was dropped off at the hovercraft and told to make his own way back.
That’s what I was told by the hospital along with the excuse that the budget doesn’t allow for transport back.
Totally agree, taxpayer should foot the bill for a taxi…
But after paying my taxes for over 55 years it is not the taxpayer who foots the bill for a taxi as I have already paid in. Unlike the U.K. invaders. All I am suggesting is that an island living patient should be discharged back to St Mary’s Hospital.
I take on board what people have said, and it was actually a personal choice to make my own way home.
The cost of getting me over to QA in a helicopter must have been pretty expensive. The cost of the operation to have three stents fitted over three days must have been eye watering, plus all medication and advice i received. Importantly i didn’t want to tie up an ambulance as it could have been needed.
Anyway put your coins into the air ambulance tin
