Ryde’s Neighbourhoods Policing Team (NPT) is investigating a series of vehicle crimes that took place in the Ryde area this week and is encouraging anyone with CCTV or Doorbell camera footage to make contact with police.
As previously reported by Island Echo, the incidents occurred sometime between the evening of 8th January and the morning of 10th January earlier this week.
At present, Police have received 22 reports of vehicles broken into across Ryde and Binstead, Oakfield and Elmfield, and 3 reports of vehicles being stolen. The 3 stolen vehicles have since been recovered.
Some of the targeted vehicles were left unlocked, and thieves have predominantly been stealing loose change from inside.
Anyone who has been affected or who has any information is asked to contact police on 101, quoting 44230013113, or to submit information via the Police website here: https://www.hampshire.police.uk/tua/tell-us-about/cor/tell-us-about-existing-case-report/

First it was 4 vehicles, now it’s 22! What the heck are the police doing? Come on Donna Jones, tell us why we should pay a higher police precept.
Might be harsh and ott but I would love to shoot the scum, and rid them off the planet
Why the F__k are we paying for police and council? They are simply not worth it.
So what exactly would you suggest ?
You and your 16 followers……?
Oh get real. This crime has only just happened. All the other bad stuff that goes on around the island hasn’t stopped you know! The Police are appealing for CCTV footage. What else can they do at this stage? They don’t have “super powers” to direct them to each and every one of these scum bags who were involved in this crime. Give them a chance why don’t you.
The island has changed and not for the better. I would think it’s teenagers. No hardened car thief searches for ‘loose change’ in the glovebox! Not like they took the cars and are dripping them down to sell the parts. Kids I’d say.
The CCTV footage has been plastered all over Facebook. Don’t the police look there?
The police are more comfortable sitting in their cars waiting for motorists going 5mph over the speed limit!!!
Scum bags buy your own car and see what it’s like when someone breaks in to your car total neglect by the police there not patrolling in the evening when they should be
I’m shocked that these sticky fingered tea leaves, could roam around in the middle of the night and not be stopped!
Quite a few years ago you couldn’t walk home in the early hours without being stopped and name taken.
I guess the police no longer patrol local areas?
Again seems like our money gets wasted!
There’s no excuse but the days when you could leave a car unlocked went by long ago.
