David Wilson Homes has had a special visit from the Island’s Council for the official opening of the playpark at its Newport development.
St George’s Gate in Shide welcomed Councillor Lora Peacey-Wilcox and the Chair of Newport and Carisbrooke Community Council, Andrew Garratt, to the development, along with 4-year-old Alex who cut the ribbon with the help of his dad and St George’s Gate’s assistant site manager, Tom Cleary.
At the opening ceremony, young Alex had the important job of testing out all the equipment in the playpark and gave it his professional ‘thumbs up’.
Alex’s dad and assistant site manager Tom said it was great to see the playpark opening on the development.
Tom said:
“We’ve been building here on the Island for some time and to be able to include facilities like these mean more local children like Alex will be able to enjoy them for many years to come.”
Andrew Garratt, Chair of Newport and Carisbrooke Community Council, said:
“It was my pleasure to be at today’s opening of the playpark at St George’s Gate, which we know will be really popular with local families.”
Councillor Lora Peacey-Wilcox added:
“It’s great to see more facilities like this become available and we’d like to thank David Wilson Homes for inviting us along.”
Committed to supporting the communities it builds in, David Wilson Homes hopes the playpark will make a welcome addition to the site.
Tammy Bishop, Sales Director at David Wilson Homes Southampton Division, said:
“We’re so pleased to see little Alex being the 1st to enjoy the playpark at our St George’s Gate development and we’ve no doubt many other local children will be out to join him very soon!”

Hopefully it doesn’t fall apart like alot of the houses up there are. At least the kids will get a year or 2 if they are lucky out of it before it gets condemned by the council.
All New builds should come with playparks for families to enjoy.
All children should be born only to those who can afford them without forcing others to fund their choice, or more likely their careless drugged drunk one night encounter
Wish the playparks around Newport were maintained properly, some are in a real state! Although I suppose it’s difficult when they are used and abused by teenagers with nothing better to do.
It actually opened on the 5th of june , the day the kids went back to school after half term, however has already been trashed with fence panels etc being ripped off.
The whole estate is a joke making us residents pay a yearly service charge which i was told when purchasing the house that it would go down the more people that move onto the estate. haha what a joke, this has not happened if anything it has gone up and yet not quite sure what we are paying for as the whole estate is a mess!!!
New smart meter fitted for energy 6 months ago and not received one bill yet from the provider. This whole development is run by incompetent cowboys!!!
They will tell you anything to get you to sign on the dotted line we looked at buying a place there when it first started so glad we didn’t just looks like a dumping ground now
