UPDATED: Emergency services are attending a plane crash at Bembridge Airport this morning (Tuesday), in which a light aircraft has landed upside down off the runway.
The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are in attendance at the scene with a rescue tender, foam salvage tender, two appliances and a Land Rover. Paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service are also on scene.
Emergency services were called to the airport at around 11:30.
UPDATE @ 12:10 – Three people have escaped serious injury in the incident, suffering minor cuts and bruises. Amazingly, the aircraft has been left relatively intact, although damaged.
It is thought the crash occurred as the plane was coming in to land at Bembridge.
Some emergency crews have now stood down, however firefighters remain on scene alongside Police.
The Air Accident Investigation Branch have been informed and the runway has been closed.
UPDATE @ 13:21 – Just one fire appliance remains at Bembridge Airport this afternoon for scene safety. All other emergency crews have stood down.
The casualities – who are all thought to be local – have been described as walking wounded and have not required hospital treatment.
The cause of the crash, which has involved a Cessna 172 Skyhawk, is currently unknown. It is thought wind could have been a factor.
