Islanders are being asked by the Isle of Wight Council about pharmacy services in their area.
The council is consulting on a draft Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment (PNA) which details the needs of island residents in relation to pharmacy services on the Island. It also considers if the provision is suitable for the local population and identifies any possible gaps.
Following the consultation – and when the PNA is agreed – NHS England will use the assessment in considering future applications by pharmacies for new premises, additional or changes to existing services.
Councillor Clare Mosdell, Cabinet Member of Adult Social Care and Public Heath said:
“We all use our local pharmacy, from helping with tablets for a headache to collecting our prescription for occasional or regular medication. Increasing pressure on doctor and hospital services also make your local pharmacy an import first point of call for advice. They are a valuable part of our communities.
“Pharmacists are qualified to give expert advice on medicines and how they work, as well as help you decide whether you need to see a doctor.
“This assessment is revised every three years, so it is important we use this opportunity to seek your opinions about the service we need, available to us locally.”
