Following many requests from individuals and Island organisations, the organisers of the first Isle of Wight Day to be held on Saturday 24th September have announced that they are now in the early stages of planning a big People’s Parade to be held in Newport on the Saturday evening.
The team behind Isle of Wight Day are already encouraging all Islanders to ‘Wave the Flag’ and ‘Hang out the Bunting’ on 24th September and have been overwhelmed with suggestions and plans from Town and Parish councils, schools and businesses from across the Island for different celebrations that they are planning for the day.
The Island’s High Sheriff, Robin Courage said:
“What better way to bring everyone together to celebrate this day than to hold a big Parade, which everyone can join. We have already had discussions with veteran car clubs, schools, scout groups, the Royal British Legion, the combined cadet forces and marching bands and many other groups and individuals, who are all keen to take part.
“So, we are now actively involved in planning this major event for the day. This Peoples Parade is now being planned for the evening of September 24th and we are keen that anyone who would like to join in these celebrations contacts us and registers their interest as soon as possible. We are currently forming a team of Parade planners who can be contacted through our website at www.isleofwightday.com”
