Emergency services are responding to a single vehicle collision on a main road in Shanklin this afternoon (Sunday).
1 appliance from the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service is in attendance on Landguard Manor Road, alongside colleagues from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service and Police.
Crews have rushed to the scene after a blue Lexus overturned on the junction with Marine Cross Road, just yards from Shanklin Fire Station.
Firefighters have stabilised the upturned vehicle and the occupants are free from the wreckage.
UPDATE @ 18:12 – Firefighters have now stood down and returned the short distance to Shanklin Fire Station having stabilised the vehicle allowing the occupants to exit.
The vehicle remains on its roof having collided with a nearby garden wall causing extensive damage to both the car and the brick structure.
The occupants of the vehicle are being checked by paramedics. The road remains closed between Marine Cross Road and Hyde Road.
UPDATE @ 20:00 – The road has now reopened following the recovery of the vehicle by Bartletts.
Island Echo has been told that the 4 occupants of the vehicle – thought to be holidaying on the Island – have suffered only minor injuries during the incident.
It is understood that a passerby who witnessed the incident unfold assisted 3 of the 4 occupants out of the vehicle before the emergency services arrived on scene. The last was assisted by the fire crew.

How did the car turnover on its roof and was everyone OK
Apparently wanted to turn left at last minute panic when sat Nav stated. Don’t quote me on that though.
Drink/drugs-old people/rain don’t mix.
Wrong on all counts btw apart from rain
There will be another one along soon…it’s the Isle of Wight…
Occupants helped from the vehicle by Christopher Tyler. Modest guy but a good citizen
What is happening, occurring too regulary.
Are these drivers trying low level aerobatics like the Red Arrows?
Strange why the cars like being on roof’s
,
First our island trees were jumping out on unsuspecting motorists, now it’s garden walls!!!! I dunno, all these cars on their roofs. My mind boggles.
From the number of Accidents that take place on this small Island everyday,
Island Roads are the most Dangerous Roads in the Country.
Many roads are narrow and many Roads allow people to park on both sides of the Road.
Many roads and streets need to be adapted so vehicles do not cause obstructions.
Nothing wrong with the roads, just speed and brainless idiots again. Another fatal is looming unfortunately…..
Well at least the car – a Lexus NX Hybrid Electric – was taxed and had an MOT, which makes a change.
What a shame though – only 1 year and 5 months old.
They should put up sign’s at the ferry ports warning you that there is a magnetic shield over the island. If you don’t drive carefully it will flip your car over for no obvious reason.
I had an incident Saturday when i turned left into Whitwell at the church heading to Niton with a White BMW behind, and despite the speed limit being 30 mph, and i was doing 30, the person , who had followed me from Ventnor, trying to overtake at every opportunity, but couldn’t because of oncoming traffic decided to fly past me at ridiculous speed, showing NO thought that a car, bike or person could have come out from the junction. The only bit of road is less than100metres to a blind corner. Mainland plates on it, but that means nothing as i have lived on the island 27 years and have mainland plates on my car. And that’s not the first time.
Should start putting the registration of speeding cars on Facebook, so many times I see cars speeding through Godshill, Arreton, Rookley and other places, and where schools are.
