Island Roads is thanking road users, businesses and residents at the end of an intensive programme of road improvement work.
The 3-week programme of surface dressing has now finished, subject to some final sweeping, snagging and road marking and road stud (cat’s eye) replacement work.
During the programme, more than 10 miles of road – more than 100,000 square metres – was treated. The programme was assisted by the warm, dry weather, which meant not a single shift was lost.
Surface dressing is used to improve the skid resistance of the road surface and to prevent water ingress which is a major cause of potholes.
An Island Roads spokesperson has said:
“Though surface dressing is applied by moving vehicles so disruption is minimised, it is impossible to avoid an element of inconvenience so we’d like to thank residents for their support and co-operation
“This support and compliance with the necessary road closures helps keep road users and our staff safe and also helps us complete the work as quickly as possible. With the exception of a very few incidents, the general public were fantastic throughout the programme and all of us at Island Roads are extremely grateful.”
The roads treated in the programme were:
Marshcombe Shute, Brading; Gully Road, Nettlestone; Lynch Lane, Calbourne; Freshwater Road, Calbourne, Newport Road/Freshwater Road, Shalfleet/Freshwater; Gate Lane, Freshwater; Victoria Road, Freshwater; Guyers Road, Freshwater; High Street, Niton; Barrack Shute, Niton; Laceys Lane, Niton; Binstead Lodge Road, Binstead; Chestnut Close, Binstead; Pellview Close, Binstead; Hillrise Avenue, Binstead; Bowcombe Road, Carisbrooke; Bellevue Road, Cowes, Seaview Road, Cowes; Maxted Close, Cowes; Niton Road, Rookley; Blythe Way, Shanklin, Silver Trees, Shanklin.

Still haven’t resurfaced Alpine Road in Ventnor which is a potential death trap for cyclists. it’s bad enough for motorists.
I saw a couple of cyclists riding from East Cowes
towards Whippingham this afternoon.
I do wish cyclists wouldn’t keep riding side by side
holding each others hands
(Very frustrating for us paying motorists who pay to
use the roads, not a load of selfish freeloaders on
2 wheels who pay fcuk all)
There are hardly any cycle lanes on the island,
so why does the island encourage cyclists.
It is 2025 install cycle lanes if you want to encourage
cyclists to cycle on the island
F.F.S
Phil Jordan and Ventnor, not a good mix, Jordan hates Ventnor.
Waste of money. Surface dressing never lasts more than five minutes.
I noticed along Binstead today so
many freshly painted Double Yellow Lines
it made my day.
(Let’s get the B’stards who park on
Double Yellow Lines)
Heavier fines is the perfect deterrent.
Park Road in Ryde opposite
Advanced Automotive is a parking on
Double Yellow Lines hotspot.
“Tow the B’stards away”
Your language is atrocious. Go and stand in the corner.
Not sure the absolutely massive amount of Tar Banding put over all the cracks in very recently re-laid roads count as repairs? Extremely dangerous to both motorcycles and cyclists as absolutely no grip at all. Its everywhere you drive. The road relay is absolutely minimal so roads will be reclosed for even more repairs soon enough.
Lynch Lane did NOT need resurfacing. Total waste of money.
