Police are negotiating with the occupants of a vehicle which has been stopped by officers in Ryde this evening (Tuesday).
2 individuals are refusing to exit the Peugeot 306, which has been pulled over at the entrance road to Tesco. 7 officers have surrounded the hatchback.
Island Echo readers have reported a pursuit in the area of Westridge – the 3rd in 2 days.
UPDATE @ 19:57 – Island Echo understands that Police have been involved in the pursuit of a blue Mitsubishi Evo, which has since been discovered abandoned behind the former Waltzing Waters complex.
It’s suspected by officers that the driver of the Evo jumped into the 306 ‘getaway’ car, which has subsequently been stopped just yards down the road.
The individual has been breathalysed and drug swabbed and allowed on his way – but will be reported for driving offences and is expected to appear in court at a later date.
Officers would have had to use hands-on tactics to gain entry to the vehicle and remove the male suspect.
The Evo has now been seized by officers, who are awaiting recovery of the vehicle.

Smash the screen and their jaw with a baton. Simple.
You forgot to add then tazer them.
Should have dragged to Peugeot up to the evo and started pulling it apart surely they would get out then
No it’s not the same car. it was a nissan Murano I believe
Try a stun gun, might stop them refusing anything then
Yes, I drove past and admired her ‘do’
There certainly some low life coming out the wood work lately
Here Here Mary…. Have some of he scum moved over from the mainland or are these ‘homegrown’ idiots???
Just tow it on the back of a break down truck and drop it
Having personally witnessed this incident unfold and then observed the officers negotiate with the occupants of the vehicle, I have to say that the police officers were extremely patient and in my opinion very fair with the occupants of the car who were basically not doing as they were being told , they remained in the vehicle refusing to get out. It is absolutely disgraceful that these three individuals in the car took up the resources of seven police officers and this should be taken into account when sentence is passed because I’m confident that with the number of police that were in attendance it would’ve detracted from other incidences being able to be attended By the Police. Thankfully the Mitsubishi Evo which evaded police earlier was recovered And I hope that the thug who was driving this vehicle loses ownership and the car is sold with the money put back into the police to cover the resources taken this evening but also to cover the costs of the Crown Prosecution Service taking these Scum to court. Well done Isle of Wight police.
I believe the Police can confiscate super cars like this and use them for traffic or pursuit purposes. Look out for an EVO with blue lights!
No, scrapped or sold at auction only sadly.
This is what I love to hear , my dad is a police man and all people ever do is judge them and I hate it so thank you!
Why give them so long? Ask once politely, when they didn’t comply, smash the glass and drag them out like they do on Police Interceptors on the TV! Too soft over here. And yes, why so many officers? Probably the entire force for the whole of the island was in attendance!
If the evo was involved in a police pursuit and they found it abandoned then the police should surely have the power to impound the car, giving them the chance to get him on driving offences as this is a recurring problem with this particular car and occupant
It was ceased by a recovery truck..
Name and shame
Is all the softly softly approach by the police in the last few days due to they worried about corona virus ,spitting etc etc ? If it not what is the reason
For a long time now I have thought that as soon as a vehicle ‘refuses to stop’ the police should start totting up the cost of their time and equipment involved, and the the bill presented to the offenders. Police cars and helicopters come very, very expensive by the hour!
There should be a minimum sentence of say 5 years for refusing to stop plus the cost of time and equipment.
Trouble is probably on benefits and have to pay a pound a week….just said that because when my motorbike was kicked over causing nearly a thousand pounds worth of body damage he was ordered to pay me ten pounds a month which lasted for about three months then he vanished…
Would everybody agree the Island Evo drivers all seem to be pratts
This is the car that speeds up north road in Shanklin at high speed in access of 60-70 mph glad it’s been taken off the toad
Taken off the toad? It’ll teach him not to Kermit a crime.
Be fair, rephrase that as ‘lots’. And include some Ford Fiesta/Focus STs ….. I’m an ‘old un and drive an ST3, but I don’t drive round like a pratt trying to impress my mates and escape from the police. But I hear what you are saying…
Crush the car preferably with the driver in it ….. why don’t the police deploy the spikes to burst the tyres & bring the car to a halt
Uninsured, untaxed, drink, drug driving? Chavs, hope they crush his car.
They refuse to get out of the car? Then seal them in and leave them there, see how long they last. Better still, seal them in and just take the whole lot to the crusher. Another goodbye to bad rubbish.
Complete morons take their license then 300hours community service picking fruit and veg in the fields save importing more Romanians and crush the car fair sentence
