A new mayor and deputy mayor have been chosen to represent the Isle of Wight’s largest town.
Ryde Town Council members elected Councillor Diana Conyers as Ryde’s next mayor and Councillor Karen Lucioni as deputy mayor at a meeting on Tuesday 13th May.
Cllr Conyers takes over from Richard May while Cllr Lucioni replaces Jo Elliott.
Richard May and Jo Elliott have stepped down from their town councillor roles.
Cllr Conyers:
“It is a huge honour and privilege to be mayor of Ryde Town Council – and a role that I don’t take lightly.
“I believe that my many years’ experience as a local councillor, both here in Ryde and on the mainland, and that as a former chair of the Isle of Wight Association of Local Councils (IWALC), give me the necessary skills, while my community work in Ryde gives me some understanding of the needs of our residents.
“My predecessor, Richard May, held the position of mayor with distinction. I hope to build on the excellent work he has done with, and on behalf of, Ryde Town Council.
“In so doing, I shall work closely with other local organisations. We need to work together for the benefit of our residents, especially in these challenging times when the need is great and resources are scarce.”
Cllr Lucioni said:
“This opportunity to serve our community is a true honour, and I am committed to working alongside my fellow councillors to make a positive impact in Ryde.
“Let’s continue to collaborate and create a brighter future for Ryde, where everyone feels valued and heard. Here’s to a new chapter dedicated to service, growth, and community spirit!”
