Ryde could get 8 new electric vehicle charging bays, if plans are approved by County Hall.
Zest Eco has applied to the Isle of Wight Council for a lawful development certificate for a proposed installation of 4 rapid EV chargers, with accompanying electrical equipment, on land off Union Road.
The site, described as within walking distance of cafes, restaurants, hotels and bars, albeit down a back alley, is currently used as a car park – and has been since at least 1999. In 2019, permission was granted for 6 apartments on the site but this consent was never implemented.
Zest Eco describes itself as one of the UK’s ‘fastest growing’ EV charge point operators which specialises in deploying and managing charging infrastructure for ‘local authorities, brands and destinations’.
Its application follows a successful bid for an EV charging zone in the car park of Newport’s Morrisons supermarket, approved by the council in October last year.
The Isle of Wight Council is due to make a decision on the proposal on 17th March.
The Island could roll out islandwide parking permits
the revenue raised would pay for more chargers to be
installed islandwide.
Why bother ? ev cars crap and no one wants them..
