Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary have revealed that 96 speeding motorists were caught on the Island’s roads in December.
RPU teams across Hampshire, the Isle of Wight and the Thames Valley were also heavily committed with Operation Holly throughout December – the force’s proactive campaign to tackle drink and drug driving over the festive period.
Throughout December, the unit made 34 visits to 18 separate locations across the West, North, East and South Wight, with just shy of 100 speeding motorists caught.
Lewis Campbell, Road Safety Officer for Isle of Wight Council, said:
“We appreciate the police efforts to tackle speeding and drink driving on the Island throughout December. Additionally, Operation Holly is complemented by our Christmas Drink Driving advertising campaign, encouraging motorists to avoid drink driving.
“Whether it’s speeding, driving under the influence or other poor driving behaviours, our joint message is clear – it’s not worth the risk.”

Seriously? Just 3 a day?
NEARLY 100 – Across Thames Valley, Hampshire and the IoW!
Well done Mr Plod!
Many, many more out there to be caught! Especially the ones with the ‘noisy’ exhausts.
Excellent job catching these speeders. Well done!
But as a daily driver, I’ve seen no difference in amount of idiots up behind me and overtaking well above speed limit, cutting corners at speed, racing on dual, Military Rd. Every day/evening going past me home at 60-70mph in a 30. Also been a larger number of speed related accidents reports!.
Speeding? I’d like to.
Seems all I ever get stuck behind is people that can do 25 in a 60.
Wow ?! This is one of the worst places to drive ,drivers are so slow, hesitant and scared of the hilly parts and I’m guessing garages make a fortune supplying new brakes , Brake, hesitate , brake , I’m not a speed enthusiast, never had a ticket in over 30 years of driving but driving @25 mph if I’m lucky on a 50 mph or 40mph road , these people think slower is safer , constant hesitation and braking is misleading to the person behind , they are too slow and over cautious to even read the road signs , get the bus !
It is all down to the vast amount of elderly drivers, but they do provide a service by slowing down the boy racers, and they also help with the drink drivers by making it harder to spot them.
