2 muddy and cold teenage boys were rescued from the shore between Thorness and Gurnard last night (Wednesday) in almost exactly the same location that 2 other teens were rescued from on Sunday. Shortly after 20:00, Solent Coastguard was alerted to the plight of 2 boys who found themselves caught at the bottom of a cliff by the rising tide. Cowes RNLI lifeboat was already out on a training exercise so was able to quickly respond to the call for help, making best speed to the reported location of the casualties around half way along a stretch of remote coastline between Thorness and Gurnard. Fortunately, the volunteer crew members of Cowes Lifeboat were able to quickly locate the pair – described as very muddy and cold. They were soon taken by the lifeboat to Trinity Landing in Cowes, where they were received by Needles Coastguard Rescue Team. The relieved mother of 1 of the boys drove her son to St Mary’s Hospital in Newport for further assessment and treatment. Search and rescue teams stood down less than an hour after the alarm was raised. On Sunday, emergency services spent more than 2-and-a-half hours freeing a 15-year-old girl and a 16-year-old boy from mud near Thorness, as previously reported by Island Echo. It’s unclear why any of the casualties ventured to the remote location, especially in the dark.
