The publication of plans for new laws to be drawn up in the event of a ‘Leave’ vote next Thursday have been welcomed by the Island’s MP, who has said that there had been calls for clarity – which are now being answered.
New laws would divert money saved from EU membership into extra funding for the NHS; abolish VAT on fuel bills; introduce a points based system of immigration – halting free movement of migrants and introducing powers to remove criminals and terrorists; end the power of EU courts and restore the UK Government’s power to set its own trade policies.
Andrew Turner MP has this week said:
“The Remain side have been scaremongering that it would take up to a decade of re-negotiation to sort out our nation’s future in the event of a Leave vote on 23rd June. These plans, clearly set out, demonstrate that need not be the case.
“A vote for Leave will be a clear mandate to the British Government to get on with things – and the British people will expect them to do that. We will be able to pass our own laws and set our own priorities because the EU will not be able to overturn them. We will be free to disregard previous EU treaties – such as those tying us to allow all EU citizens into Britain – because the British people would have instructed us to do so.
“The Remain side have been calling for clarity on what our plans and priorities would be. Well here they are, and Labour MPs and business leaders would be involved in drafting the detail of these laws. They could all easily be passed before the next General Election in 2020 – and I look forward to working on them with my colleagues.”
The country will go to the polls on Thursday 23rd June with a Stay or Leave vote on the United Kingdom’s membership of the European Union.
