Isle of Wight MP Bob Seely is urging Islanders to take part in a Government survey inviting people to share their experiences of the planning system.
The survey – which has been launched by the Housing, Communities and Local Government Select Committee – invites respondents to set out how they have used the planning system in the past and ways in which it could be improved in the future.
MPs on the Select Committee said the responses would be used by the Committee to inform future questioning to the Government.
Mr Seely said:
“This survey is a chance for Islanders to help shape the new planning system in England. It not only seeks your views on the current planning system, but it also asks questions about whether you think we need more housing on the Isle of Wight and how much.
“The Government intends to build 300,000 more new homes every year in England which will have an irreversible and devastating impact on our country’s green landscape.
“On the Isle of Wight, we will see our housing targets increased by over 50% to 1,045 dwellings a year. The Island can comfortably build about 200-300 units per year.
“The impact of these new targets is huge. We will see more greenfield land lost to large housing developments and vast numbers of retirees moving here which puts pressure on our health system and other services.
“I urge Islanders to complete the survey and have their say.”
A link to the survey can be found here. The survey will be open until 11:59 pm on Wednesday 11th November and takes approximately 10 minutes to complete.
The Select Committee will also host an online event on Thursday 26th November at 16:00 to find out more about the experiences of those who have dealt with the planning system. You can register your interest through the survey.

I have a plan for you Bob, sack the monkeys that cost us over 7 million on that floating turd and get it sorted. Do you job and hold these people accountable.
Same for the idiot St Marys road scheme
Sadly the MP can’t sack any Councillor or Council Executive…. that is our job, Dave Stewart the Council Leader has failed and so has the man he is responsible for John Metcalfe, change the Council you can help change the management, make sure you vote in May, local council elections are important
I’m probably just being thick but what does AONB as a title for the pale green areas mean?
Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, in other words what was here before the so called planning nerds we seem to breed got here
Planning do not plan anything, they pass everything and if there is a problem they do nothing about it.
They are a waste of public money, get rid of the lot of them and put someone in charge that does give a dam about the Isle of Wight and the people who live here.
Planning need to go back to actually doing some work.
Checks on any granted developments/building should be inspected throughout the construction process, not let builders ‘self certificate’.
If something is not correct/according to plans submitted ROBUST corrective measures should be enforced.
That’s ignoring any ‘alleged’ brown envelopes and strange handshakes that may or may not happen.
This will achieve utter f**k all. Like all other ‘Request for Comments’ BS the council do. The Island will forever be buried under concrete but hey, just spout random words like ‘sustainable’ over and over like a cultist and pretend everything is all right.
If those pink bits really are separation areas why are they being allowed to build a football ‘stadium’ at The Racecourse
Planners are too prone to being able to take bribes if they are corrupt. It would be far safer the local parish councils and members of the public IN the area concerned to vote on large scale planning.
Of course whatever we say, UNLESS by sheer coincidence, such happens to be what the greedy council and suss planners were ‘going to do anyway’ then a pointless false exercise to make it ‘look’ as though the ‘people’ have some say, but anything they were going to do, will happen anyway.
Just do as the uncaring thinkers do, put on strictly for some cheap thrills, and watch your beautiful Island become ever more ruined, for YOU can do nothing to stop it imo APART from voting OUT this awful greedy Council next time around.
This will probably be a total waste of time as when was the last time this council or government took any notice of the the public?
What’s the point Of asking our opinions when you do what you want anyway! And the amount of money wasted on the floating bridge and st Mary’s roundabout for nothing that benefits us. And sooner see the vulnerable starve and take away from our children.
