Trips to the flicks are set to return as big screen chain Cineworld announces the re-opening of its venues, including Newport’s multiplex.
As previously reported by Island Echo, movie fans were left without their popcorn fix when the chain closed its 127 cinemas across the country in response to the coronavirus crisis in October, putting thousands of jobs on pause, and many fans unable to see the new installments of their favourite sagas.
The announcement means that blockbuster movies such as the new ‘Godzilla vs Kong’ and ‘No Time To Die’ will be able to be shown ahead of them reaching online streaming platforms, thanks to a deal struck with industry giant Warner Brothers.
The Island’s biggest cinema is set to reopen in May, in alignment with the easing of Government coronavirus restrictions.

I’ll be there on the 1st day of opening, for a much needed slice of normality.
Why is island echo blocking my facts – Warner bros in not behind ‘no time to die’
They block anything that disputes this ‘Covid’ nonsense.
Cinema is dead. I have a nice 4k 55″ TV. Popcorn on tap. Pause the film at any point for a break. No one talking. Perfect temperature. And I won’t get arrested for watching the film in my underpants. Also half the price. 😀
For some people, cinema gives a certain feeling and quality. For others, the normality will be their 55″tv in between 4 walls that are a few feet long. Who cares, good they’re opening.
