Bembridge RNLI’s All-Weather Lifeboat launched to assist locate & assist as required the source of a DSC Mayday thought to be in the area West of No Mans Land Fort.
The Tamar Class RNLB Alfred Albert Williams was launched earlier this afternoon (Sunday) at the request of HM Coastguard to locate the source of a DSC Mayday alert that they had received and was thought to have come from a vessel in the area west of No Mans Land Fort.
In view of the absence of any firm information about the vessel in difficulty, the Alfred Albert Williams initially proceeded relatively slowly towards the area of the fort.
Once UK (Solent) CG had identified that the vessel appeared on AIS to be moving at 8 knots from Stokes Bay towards Lee-on-Solent & Hill Head they decided that Gosport & Fareham Inshore Rescue (who were also on task) were well placed to locate the vessel, so the Bembridge crew was stood down and returned to Lane End and was recovered by 15:45.
If you or someone else is in difficulty on the coast or at sea, or if you spot what you think may be unexploded ordnance, then dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard. Further safety information can be found at https://coastguardsafety.campaign.gov.uk/.
