12-year-old Noah Gartell from Yarmouth is continuing to make a name for himself as a top snooker talent. Noah was in action last weekend in not 1 but 2 tournaments, firstly competing in the 2nd stage of the EPSB PowerGlide English Under-14 Championship on Saturday (2nd March) and then at a Cuestars U21 Bronze Tour event in Fareham on Sunday (3rd March). In the group phase of the 2nd stage of the U-14 Championship, Noah was unable to make it out of the group winning 2 and losing 2 best-of-3 frame matches. Having made the journey south from Croydon to Fareham to compete in the Cuestars event, Noah qualified 2nd in his group and navigated a tricky last-16 match to make it through to the quarter-finals where he was sadly beaten by rival and eventual winner Jack Squires – who is over 4 years older than Noah. The youngster – who doesn’t turn 13 until November – showed impressive form back in January when he won the 6th leg of the Cuestars U-21 Bronze Tour dropping just 1 frame in the process adding that to his victory in the 1st leg of the tour which was held at Salisbury Snooker Club back in September.
“Noah has a brilliant all-round game. He can break build with the best of them and his ability to play safe when required is very rare for someone of such a young age. “He practices really hard and is really determined to improve. The support from his parents Melanie and Neil is brilliant too. “The next step for Noah is to try and get recognised on the national U-21 Circuit which requires a lot of dedication and travelling, but he’s a contender for sure.”
Away from the snooker table, Noah competes for the Island Athletics Club in the javelin and plays football for Bembridge U12s. Noah has also recently been selected to play for the Isle of Wight County Cricket Team. Noah is sponsored by Wight Gold Coins and is a beneficiary of the Isle of Wight Council’s Talented Athlete Scheme and also receives support from the Wightlink Talented Athlete Scheme.
