A lone yachtsman and an RNLI lifeboat became the catch of the day for a pair of anglers when their boat needed help in the Solent yesterday (Saturday).
The men aboard the 18ft ‘Wicky Woo’ had reported they had engine trouble and were drifting off Norris Point near East Cowes.
It was a single yachtsman aboard a passing 33ft yacht that first arrived on the scene. But when, as the fishing boat was being towed by him to Cowes Harbour, it took on water, Cowes lifeboat was hurriedly tasked.
The lifeboat took over the tow at Castle Point and duly delivered the fishing boat to a mooring off the Folly on the River Medina. There the anglers were met by members of Newport Coastguard Initial Response Team.
The lifeboat launched at 15:32 and returned to station at 17:16.
