A ‘Kidical’ mass ride for young cyclists is to take place from Seaclose Park in Newport on Saturday 16th March. All are welcome to participate, including all ages and abilities. Under 16s should be accompanied by a responsible adult. Participants are encouraged to come brightly dressed and make some noise. Those taking part are encouraged to ‘pimp’ their bike for the best photo opportunity. The ‘Kidical’ mass ride is over a distance of 2 miles. Those seeking to join in should meet at 10:00 for a 10:30 start. The ride will be led by a team of marshals, showing the way and calming motor vehicles en route. Organisers CycleWight have said:
“We at CycleWight want to enable more Islanders, young and old, to jump on their bikes for their everyday activities. Showing that the streets can be ridden safely and enjoyably is something we can do right now. “Our aim is to improve and increase the existing network of safe, including segregated, routes that enable children to walk, scoot, wheel and cycle in their neighbourhoods. We’ve joined the Kidical Mass movement to share in their vision. “Kidical Mass Rides are designed to be inclusive for all ages and abilities, for disabled and able-bodied alike. The rides are fun, safe environments for families and friends to cycle together. The rides give visibility to a better, healthier and lower carbon future for young and old alike.

Better make sure one or two police are with you, too many road users think that cyclists deserve to be ran over.
I think this is a protest for alternative cycle routes, that’s why they’re choosing to do this through the high street.
Simply get rid of the costly ineffective train and turn the railway into a cycle route shared with battery buses.
No worse than cycling on narrow pot holed roads with drugged, drunk and selfish chav drivers.
I used to teach children to cycle.
I would advise all those taking part to wear something bright and crash helmets.
Hopefully the highway code laws and rules will be taught and an eyesight test done as many adult cyclists don’t seem to know them or see the difference between red and green.
