Local Isle of Wight drag performer Fanny Quivers competed and won her 3rd open heat for the nationwide drag competition, Drag Idol UK, at the historic Admiral Duncan in Soho earlier this week.
With 3 entries allowed per act, Tuesday night’s show was Fanny’s 3rd consecutive win at the first stage of heats, with the other 2 wins secured at The William Morris Bar, Walthamstow and The Two Brewers, Clapham back in April.
The competition is now in its 17th year with heats taking place at 17 different venues across the UK, including London, Manchester, Brighton and Edinburgh.
Previous winners of the competition include RuPaul’s Drag Race UK contestant Baga Chipz who herself was on the judging panel for the heat on Tuesday night. Baga complemented Fanny for being ‘fabulous, funny, filthy’ and ‘a star’. During her 10-minute set at The Admiral Duncan this week, Quivers showcased some of her own stand-up including stories about growing up as a farmer’s son on the Isle of Wight, followed by singing and rapping Plan B’s She Said, and also recent hit Montero by Lil Nas X.
Following the success at the previous heats, Quivers has already competed in 1 heat final, gaining the first runner up place, and will compete in the remaining 2 heat finals later this month.
Fanny comments:
“This journey so far has been so incredibly fun, if a little bonkers, and makes me so happy to continue to proudly represent the island that I love alongside wonderfully talented entertainers.
“I started doing drag because I just love to make people happy, spread some joy, and give people a really good laugh. The support I have received from my audiences on the Island has been overwhelming and I’m so grateful and excited to see what comes next!”
Fanny has worked to become the Island’s busiest drag queen over the past year, regularly performing in various locations every month since last May, including frequent sold-out shows at her home bar, Bar 74, in Ryde.

Aww, I just love Fanny..
Absolutely but unfortunately Fanny won’t be there as Dick is appearing instead that evening.
Disgusting……………..
Get back in your hole neanderthal. Time to evolve and learn that others like to live their life in other ways and that you have no right to demean or denigrate someone for doing so.
At birth if you are born with a penis you are a Male, born with a vagina you are a Female. Simple really. Why change nature even for an act. I remember The Black and White Minstrel show that was banned because actors were pretending to be another colour.
Anyone got a sick bag.
Why, did you just look in the mirror and see how ugly your personality is? You have no right to demean or denigrate someone who wishes to live a different life.
Freedom of speech I believe is still allowed.
Wonderful, good luck to her. Proud to have someone on the Island promoting fun and diversity, showcasing Isle of Wight talent. Good luck in the competition, all the best 🙂
This is fantastic, the more diversity we have in the community the more interesting life gets.
