Isle of Wight discus thrower Nick Percy has qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympics by taking silver at the British Athletics Championships at Manchester Arena. Nick threw a best of 61.26m, losing out by 42 cm to Lawrence Okoye. The athlete – who was born in Glasgow and therefore represents Scotland – has already competed at the Commonwealth Games, World and European Championships. Speaking to Scottish Athletics, Percy said:
“I wanted to try and win my 6th British title but it wasn’t my best series of throws – I don’t think there is one there I am happy with. “Training has meant a 2-hour drive up to London, lack of sleep and getting home at midnight. “But I’m on the podium again and I am always proud to do that for Scotland, my club, my coach and my family, but this time I have to accept silver. “I’ve done everything required to go to Paris. It’s a lifelong dream. I feel extreme joy and will be a blubbering mess crying. “I’m extremely fortunate and have had the help of other athletes.”
Nick will now head to France for the Olympics, which take place between 26th July – 11th August.
