Last week the Isle of Wight’s Member of the Youth Parliament, Connor Dyer, met with the Island’s MP, Andrew Turner, to talk about his role and to discuss the views of young people on the Island.
Mr Turner said:
“I enjoyed meeting Connor, who is very enthusiastic about his role. He asked me some very sensible questions and gave well thought out answers to the questions I asked him. As is often the case with parliamentarians, we didn’t share the same views on everything, which always makes for healthy debate.
“We discussed some of the top ten issues affecting young people as voted on by the Youth Parliament, which is made up of young people aged eleven to eighteen. I was pleased to hear about their plans to take up issues important to them. I look forward to regular meetings with Connor which will help to keep me in touch with the views of young Islanders.”
Mr Dyer commented:
“It is essential in my role as Member of Youth Parliament to meet with local figures in an attempt to get young people more involved in politics. With great change in store for the future, young people need to be included in decision making, now more than ever. It was a great and productive experience for me to meet with Mr Turner.”
