Kev Chant of Wightlink-Wight Mountain Cycle Race Team won the final round of the Evening TT Series on Thursday 18th August in a time of 15.14, which secured his place as Overall Series Winner.
Kev came home almost half a minute up on former GB rider and Islander Nic Hutchings (CS Grupetto), who now lives and races on the mainland. Nic proved his class by romping home in 15.47 to take 2nd place and the Non-WLWM top spot on the night just ahead of Simon Ambrosini (WLWM CRT), who took 3rd in 16.19 and the Overall Vet 50+ Series title. James Veal joined his WLWM CRT teammates on the Overall Series podium taking a well-earned 2nd place up against some tough opponents.
Alastair Luxford (Full Gas) just missed out on a podium, but his previous solid performances won him the trophy and prize for the Non-WLWM Overall Series Winner. Martin Piper and Darren Cole joined him on the podium in 2nd and 3rd place respectively. Martin also took another Overall Series 2nd place in the Vet 50+ category with Sean Williams (NAUT Cycling) just pipping his teammate Paul Martin into 3rd.
Island GB Triathlete, Millie Williams (Vectis Academy) showed her class again by taking the Women’s Overall Series crown, with Gabriella Hewitt (Wight-Tri) taking a surprise 2nd place over Charis Jones (Wight-Tri), who unfortunately missed the last round due to injury. Anne Loh (NAUT Cycling) was the fastest on the night, powering home in 18.36.
Veteran 60+ rider, Steve Taylor (NAUT Cycling), retained his Overall Series SuperVet title with another impressive ride. Justin Steele (IW Bikes) took 2nd place with Independent rider, Graham Orchard nabbing a well-deserved 3rd place.

In the Junior Categories, unbeaten Ewan Cook (WLWM) took another Series win, Billy Williams (NAUT Cycling) finished 2nd and James Heng (IOW Triathlon club) improved on his 2021 place by taking 3rd. IOW Triathlon Club members Lottie Van Der Helstraete and Kaitlin Wilson fought it out in their last season as Juniors with Lottie taking the title after 6 rounds. Annabelle Steward and Logan Hallett, who were competing in their first TT having just turned 12 yrs, were both super confident with Annabelle pulling out an amazing ride to take 2nd place on the night.
One of the event organisers, Julie Cooper, says
“It’s amazing how the Series has grown over the past 3 years and it’s great to have such positive feedback not only from the cycling community on the Island but also from mainland riders who have made the comment that the Time Trials are so well run. We just couldn’t do it without the support of all the volunteers who give up their time to help at the events and our thanks go out to all of our sponsors.
“Over £180 was raised on the night through raffle ticket sales for the Grand Prize Draw to be held next month aid of Mountbatten Isle of Wight, bringing the total so far closer to our £2,000 target, which is absolutely brilliant! We’re looking forward to doing it all again on Sunday, 4th September at our Open TT Championship on the Chessell 40km course’
