After thumping Mildenhall 60-33 at Smallbrook in Tuesday’s home National League match to consolidate their challenge for a play off place for the league title, the Wightlink Islanders are now focussing their attention on tomorrow’s (Sunday) National League Fours Championship.
All eight National League sides take part in the event at Stoke’s Loomer Road circuit that gets underway at 15:30 and the Wightlink Islanders will be doing their very best to prevent Mildenhall retaining the title and return south as champions themselves.
The draw has been made for the group stages and the Wightlink Islanders have been drawn to ride in Group A against quartets from King’s Lynn, Coventry and holders Mildenhall with the requrement for progression to the final being to finish as one of the top two scorers, no easy task with riders getting a mere two rides each in the eight heat format.
Providing they can do that though, skipper Ben Hopwood and his men will go into the final knowing they have every chance of achieving success in that and claiming the Fours title to add to the National Trophy title they won earlier in the year.
