A Peugeot is well ablaze on the main road between Newport and Ryde this afternoon (Thursday).
The incident occurred on Kite Hill opposite the former Sloop Inn, with 999 calls reporting the vehicle blaze at around 17:00.
A Peugeot 5008 caught fire, with flames erupting from the engine bay.
The vehicle has been moved to the Southern Vectis bus stop, where it is being tackled by firefighters.
Traffic is building through Wootton as a result of the incident, with motorists likely to encounter delays in the area.
Traffic heading towards Ryde is being diverted via Mill Square, with traffic heading towards Newport remaining on the main road.
It is not known whether anyone has been injured.
UPDATE @ 17:30 – Firefighters from Ryde are on scene as the only emergency service, having extinguished the fierce but short-lived blaze.
Kite Hill remains open in both directions, albeit with delays, as a single hose-reel jet is used to douse the charred remains of the vehicle.
