The Isle of Wight Green Party is welcoming everyone to a public meeting next week to address ExxonMobil’s plans for the Island.
The news of a massive pipeline being installed across the Isle of Wight by a multinational oil and gas company has alarmed thousands of Islanders. Such a pipeline would take captured carbon dioxide from the Fawley Industrial complex, on Southampton Water, to be permanently buried at sea.
ExxonMobil held meetings in a handful of small venues throughout August and Islanders discovered that the 2 favoured routes cut straight through the Isle of Wight, from coast to coast, and will involve enormous groundworks over several years.
Green Party Co-chairman, Cameron Palin, has said:
“Public awareness of these proposals and the rationale behind them is far too low. We must alert islanders to ExxonMobil’s plans and make sure that the Labour Government say no to the pipeline.”
Everyone is welcome to attend a public meeting, hosted by the Isle of Wight Green Party, to look at the plans, listen to views and discuss the next steps to ‘Say No to the CO2 pipeline’.
The meeting will be on Monday 16th September at the Riverside Centre, Newport, from 19:00. Non-members are encouraged to attend.
