An issue affecting WightFibre customers across the Isle of Wight – described as a full fibre outage – is being investigated this afternoon (Saturday).
The problem hit at just before midday and has left thousands of customers without telephone, internet and TV services.
A spokesperson from WightFibre says that they are aware of an issue affecting a large number of customers broadband and telephone service.
Network engineers are currently looking into the matter to identify the fault and resolve to bring customers back online.
The cause is unknown at this time.
The spokesperson adds:
“We apologise for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience whilst we work on getting the service back up and running”.
UPDATE @ 16:08 – It has been confirmed that the issue, relating to a problem with the core network, has been resolved and services are now back online.

I would like to know what is Wight Fibre going to do as we pay every month for the service. You never offer any compensation to customers.
S**t happens, it is called life, why not take this opportunity to get off your x box and go out for a breath of fresh air.
But Goldeneye has just come out.
Anthony ,just like me and David and wight fibre we all say just shhhhh stop ur complaining you will be paying ur bill we all don’t care
The system was down for a short period of time, inconvenient yes, they got it sorted quickly and apologised and kept people informed. Every system has the potential to go down and does frequently, It’s not a regular event by Wight Fibre by any means, well done I say.
People take to moaning publicly all to quickly! You have a choice to complain directly or move to a more expensive operator, the choice is yours! Nothing is perfect.
Kev where’s bev
Chris and David, looking at you’re comments, I now know you to be a troll, you’ve offered nothing intellectual, or brought anything of consequence to these conversations. I do apologise, I’m not judging, you are entitled you your view however stupid you are I’m allowing you your space to be stupid. But just to warn you, you wont get another comment from me.
Best move on to another provider then – o – don’t bother with Talktalk they were much worse! Wightfibre kept us informed, fixed it in a short time – job done. If you can find a supplier that gives compensation for a couple of hours outage then please share.
Wow, they commented and apologised. It’s so weird that that’s a positive, but after years with another unnamed provider this is appreciated.
So we have and are suffering years of traffic problems for a suspect service.
See the bigger picture, people want a modern up to date Island, it wont happen by magic and disruption will happen and yes it can be annoying, ” suspect service ” a short breakdown quickly put right, and you class that as a suspect service.
A very good reason to retain the good old ordinary telephone system. My money is on a software update !!
You do realise BT have been using software driven telephone exchanges nationally since 1982? They have only just retired System X.
Are advice don’t use wight fibre lol
What’s problem, people need to stop just thinking everything is there all the time, still more reliable than most other providers. People are always reliable aren’t they !. Power cuts will be along soon and viruses in system etc .
Give them a chance, after a shaky beginning I find their service excellent and their phone people polite and helpful. Why is everyone compensation crazy, have they never let anyone down momentarily? Try living in Ukraine ……….
We are not having bombings at the moment, however, it’s coming…WW3 has already started…
My broadband was down for an hour, no biggie. In four years my broadband has dropped out precisely three times, twice for a few minutes and once for an hour. Still a far better record than I had with any other provider. You have to expect the occasional problem, it is technology after all. Thanks for resolving the issue quickly, Wightfibre.
You’re right. Our internet is down three times a week at least, sometimes a dozen times a day. Our last fault (here on the Island) meant we were out for a week and took 2 months to get some coherent response from the provider in question. Having moved around a lot, have used many providers, and they are all unreliable and awful when something goes wrong.
I’ve been with Wightfibre for several years and this is the first drop out I’ve experienced. Stable connection and blisteringly fast – twice as fast as competitors for the same price. Machines break, no big deal.
I can’t believe it generally positive comments, except one from the peanut gallery, keep it up iow, instead of the glass half empty brigade that normally seem to populate these pages with their bitter exhausting never ending diatribes!
Wightfibre – I’ve had their services for a year this was the first hiccup but sorted quickly, great job great staff blistering fast broadband best I’ve experienced and at a fair price. We are so lucky to have an island based broadband provider.
This is the first time wight fibre has let us down leave them alone and stop winging
Oh, come on! No technology is infallible and equipment failures do occur. Especially if it’s a problem up the line from the local provider.
BT once left me for 6 weeks without a phone or Internet. I didn’t even notice it was down on Saturday. Relying on openreach isn’t good. Plus, as another provider once had me speaking to every part of the world. I’ll sit in a few traffic lights for a trade in with a local decent provider.
