An exciting Island theatre group will perform an all new musical based on the historical story of the last Island witch Molly Downer as part of the Ventnor Fringe.
Written and composed by TIME NOR TIDE PLAYERS CIC – this hard-hitting musical deals with the themes of inequality and superstition and is set in the 18th Century where Molly Downer struggles to find her place in a world that cruelly judges her.
The illegitimate daughter of a clergyman she faces condemnation for her birth, her way of life, and her then forbidden love for another woman. Her struggle to be who she truly is, when the world denies her right to exist, resonates with those today in the LGBTQIA+ community who continue to deal with the unfairness of the modern world and its prejudices.
A story of betrayal and loss, but infused with Molly’s strength, her mother’s love for her, and the hope Molly is able to find for a time in the relationship she forges.
While ultimately Molly descends into a life of loneliness through no fault of her own, those strengths and the love felt for her memory by her partner’s daughter make her story 1 of standing tall in a world that only rewards those that bow to the powers-that-be.
Performances are to be held on the 28th, 29th, and 30th July at 12:30. Tickets are now available from https://www.mollydowner.com.

Should be set in the 19th century when Molly Downer actually lived.
She lived in the 18th century and died in the 19th century I believe
That is correct.
Sounds like a lot of fun
Great to see a home grown drama being performed. We need more local, original productions like this. Can’t wait to see it.
