Ryde-based software developer, Solcom Limited, has been awarded Best Value in Telehealth in the annual Health Service Journal Awards for its work with partner client NHS Sunderland Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG).
Solcom has written a piece of software called ‘Whzan’, which allows patients with long-term conditions and those in residential care homes to have their health monitored on a daily basis. This has enabled many of them to avoid hospital admission and has reduced demand on ambulance services, including here on the Isle of Wight.
The company was established on the Island almost 20 years ago and entered the high tech world of digital healthcare in 2011. Since then it has provided home care monitoring for hundreds of NHS patients, delivering considerable savings to stretched healthcare budgets and significant improvements in the quality of lives of patients.
The HSJ competition received over 300 entrants with 10 finalists, however Whzan was given a unanimous thumbs up by the highly qualified judges.
Staff attended a gala dinner in Manchester on 25th May.
Keith Chessell, CEO of Solcom and Wootton Bridge resident, said:
“It is a fantastic achievement to be part of this prestigious award, I don’t believe there can be a higher accolade in healthcare. For an island based business to be at the forefront of this advance in technology, delivering positive results is a great testament to the quality of the software skills on our doorstep”.
Solcom’s partner Rachael Forbister, Telehealth Lead and Project Manager for NHS Sunderland CCG, added:
“What an amazing accolade to win the HSJ! This award is testament to the amazing work that Solcom has supported and developed to help Sunderland implement an amazing system putting patients at the heart of what we do.”
