
3 primary schools from the Isle of Wight gave it their best at the J Rock Southern Final in Portsmouth last night (Wednesday), taking home a number of awards for excellence but failing to clinch a podium place.
A total of 12 schools from across 5 southern counties competed at the Guildhall in Portsmouth, including Lanesend Primary School, Nettlestone Primary School and Stenbury Federation.
It was Southampton’s Calmore Junior School that took the top spot, but there were a number of awards for the Island schools.
Nettlestone Primary School received the Ansvar Insurance Award for Spirit of Rock Challenge; the ACRO Criminal Records Office Award for Performers’ Choice; the West Sussex County Council Think Family Award of Excellence for Drama; the Ian Wright Consulting Award of Excellence for Concept; the Zeamu Music Award of Excellence for Soundtrack; the Druglink Award of Excellence for Lighting; the HC3S Award of Excellence for Video Performance and the Be Your Best Foundation Award for Student Leadership.

Stenbury Federation were awarded the Ian Wright Consulting Award of Excellence for Concept; the Druglink Award of Excellence for Lighting; the HC3S Award of Excellence for Video Performance and also received the Southampton City Council Award of Excellence for Set Design and Function. They also clinched the Rock Challenge Award for Cultural and Educational Achievement.
Lanesend Primary took home the Janome Award of Excellence for Costuming Character; the Police and Crime Commissioner for Surrey Award of Excellence for Entertainment and the Hampshire Drug and Alcohol Action Team Award of Excellence for Visual Enhancement, as did Stenbury Federation.
