The 2014 Hampshire FA Grassroots Football Awards saw 8 awards handed out to individuals and clubs on the Isle of Wight.
The event, held at St Mary’s Stadium in Southampton on Saturday 7th June was attended by former Portsmouth, Southampton and Newcastle defender John Beresford and both The FA Cup and The FA Vase.
Jenny Gearing received the Hampshire FA Service to Football Award, recognising her 25 years contribution to football as a volunteer. John Porter also received a Hampshire FA Service to Football Award at the Hampshire FA AGM on Saturday 28th June 2014.
Shorwell United FC (pictured) and West Wight Youth FC received Hampshire FA Fair Play Awards for their outstanding disciplinary record over the past season.
Oakfield Youth FC (pictured right) received a Hampshire FA Charter Standard Award for their commitment to the Charter Standard Programme and raising standards within their club.
West Wight FC Groundsman David Thurman won the Hampshire FA Groundsman of the Year award and was subsequently nominated for The FA Groundsman of the Year award. Following this nomination, it has been announced that David was placed within the top 6 Groundsman in the Country in the Step 7 and below category. The winner of the award will be announced on Wednesday 13th August 2014 at a special ceremony at St George’s Park.
Island Referee Andy King (pictured left) was presented with the Hampshire FA Outstanding Contribution to Refereeing Award for his service as both an active referee and volunteer in grassroots football.
Finally, Roger Raggett received one of the most prestigious awards in football, The FA 50 Year Service to Football Award for his outstanding contribution to grassroots football over the past 50 years.
