A crowdfunding campaign set up by Island author Marianne Su Yin to print her first children’s book has hit 25% of it’s target, raising over £1,200 in less than a week.
Marianne hopes to gift her book to primary schools on the Isle of Wight and children’s wards and hospitals across the UK.
‘On the Trail of the Missing Pets’ is the story of a young girl, Violet Vintage, and her dog Spike taking them on an adventure in history back to 1940s London during World War II. Using a fictional story to engage primary school aged children in British history, with facts to help them learn about life at that time, the book has been written and illustrated by Marianne. In fact Spike is even based on her real dog.
Helped by local teachers and friends during its research, Marianne has brought together her interest in vintage and history along with her creative design skills to produce a beautiful classically styled book. Her crowdfunding campaign will run until Thursday 20th April, during which time she hopes to raise £5,000 to cover the costs of printing the book in paperback and hardback so she can visit local schools and events to share the story with children.
So far pledges and support have been received from individuals and local businesses including childcare services provider ‘Freedom Childcare’, but she hopes that the Island community and more businesses will help too. For just a £5 pledge, which is less than the cost of the book itself (RRP £7.99), the book can potentially reach hundreds of children.
