Summer has finally arrived on the Isle of Wight with 34.4c recorded in Havenstreet earlier today (Sunday), officially making it the hottest day of 2021 – so far!
The Ryde area recorded the top 4 temperatures across the Island today according to IW Met Service; 34.4c in Havenstreet, 34c in Elmfield, 32.8c in Binstead and 32.4c in Seaview.
The Northeastern segment benefitted from the scorching temperatures thanks to micro-climates at play. The coolest areas today included South Western coasts at around 24c, with slightly warmer conditions in seaside towns such as Shanklin recorded – up to 27c.
The good weather is expected to continue until at least Friday, when the cloud and rain moves in.

“Summer has finally arrived”, So the temperature has to reach into the 30s does it to be classed as summer? This is not a summer temperature, this is extreme heat not summer, this is a sign of global warming, an average summers day is temperatures in the low to mid 20s, the vast majority of people love sunshine and warm weather, not blistering heat. we don’t need these extremes to class it as summer!
Think about people suffering just like many animals due to this sort of temperature. This is not normal.
What a load of tosh.
You have a right to your opinion, as daft is it may be.
Utter drivel kev – it has nothing to do with global warming – you indicate an average summers day of low to mid 20’s – and what time frames are you using for reference …
as the planet changes over many, many millenia – i trust you have a data set that goes back many thousands of years, to reach the conclusion you have.
unless of course you are attributing 30 degrees being hotter than last week and that constitutes global warming in your view.
30 degrees for this time of year, is perfectly normal – it is called summer – it would only be extreme for the uk if it was consistently over 30 degrees for months – last week it was wind and rain.
Donald Trump is alive and well and has moved to the IOW, after being banned on mainstream social media, now calls himself isle of wighter.
kev – insulting someone for posting an opposing view is the preserve of a child that doesn’t get its own way, as it has no ability to construct a coherent response.
unless you are six – do a bit of research and then comment as an adult.
Hi isle of wighter, I think you need to look at your own posting ” Utter drivel” is your opening comment. would you not class that as insulting? clearly that is from someone with an apposing view.
You then state I have no ability to construct a coherent response and compare me to a six year old who should do “a bit of research and then comment as an adult”.
I think you continue with insults.
I compare your comment to DT as it is just how he responds with insults and denial.
To which you confirm with your reply.
I have fulfilled you request for a constructive coherent response.
The summer of 76 or 77 cant remember exactly when was more brutal than this. We lived on Wellington Road in Binstead and there was not just a hosepipe ban but we had to draw water from a standpipe in the road because all water was cut off. So you can shout “global warming” or, you could go back and look at historical heat and rainfall data. You may be surprised at what you find.
Really? The Met Office says that the peak was 31.6 at Heathrow.
