Hundreds of homes and businesses in Ventnor have been hit by a power cut this morning (Tuesday).
A total of 72 postcode areas in both Lower and Upper Ventnor are without electricity supply owing to a fault on the network.
Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks are aware of the issue and engineers are being sent to investigate.
Power was lost at 07:46 and the current estimated restoration time is 11:00.
This latest outage comes just hours after homes were left without power on Pan Estate in Newport.
For further information about this power cut call the dedicated helpline by dialling 105.
Alternatively, you can send SSEN a message on Facebook or Twitter (@ssencommunity).
App: Did you know SSEN also have a mobile phone app where you can report, locate, track and subscribe to faults in your area?

When are the public and the authorities going to realise its power shedding it happens in lots of countries but at least they admit it
When will people realise that you are completely mad Steve ?
This is a ridiculous comment !
Talk to former workers at Electric Companies then tell me its ridiculous comment. It’s been going on for years just not to the same extent
Your talking out of your hat, I’ve worked with utility’s for 30 Years. Most we have to deal with in the UK is power loss from overheads and voltage drop.
Steve,I am a former sse worker on the island for over 36 years, there is no such thing as power shedding and yes you are mad
Well said!
What is power shedding Steve?
Google it
Hi Christopher. I have a cousin that works for Scottish And Southern Electric on the mainland. His reply to your question goes like this :It’s when power companies reduce electricity consumption by switching off the power to groups of customers because the entire system is at risk. This could be because there is a shortage of electricity supply or to prevent transmission and distribution lines becoming overloaded. Hope this helps.
Your still YIGAF lol
You got wrong Steve but not surprising since you sit on your brain
Steve the Sleave!
Another prime growing area. Coincidence?
Hay Steve, My water went off last night, it must be water shedding. What a T W A T
Have you looked in the mirror lately
Have you?
There is always the possibility in Ventnor that the dry conditions have moved the unstable ground there.
The whole place is trying to slide into the Ocean, and as ground moves so can cables snap.
Yet with Pan and now Ventnor, both known, along with Haylands, (teach) for Island self cultivation, my first assumption is a possibility too.
Perhaps the electric co would let the Echo know to ease our worries?
The Pan outage was caused by a cable fault, there is now a big hole in the pavement. A lot of the cables have been in the ground for a considerable time and faults do develop. As for ”Load Shedding”, a much larger area would need to be out to have any noticeable effect on consumption. As one who was around during the 60’s power cuts when the miners went on strike, I remember the regular cuts we had then and the areas they covered.
Yes and Electric Companies controlled where the power was turned off no difference to now
