As his term of office comes to an end, Isle of Wight High Sheriff James Attrill took time out to visit Sandown and present Sandown Green Town Volunteers with a High Sheriff’s award in recognition of great and valuable services to the community.
The award also recognises the appreciation of the residents and people of the said High Sheriff’s County for activity and contribution in enhancing the life of the community.
Sandown Green Town Volunteers were formed in 2015 and since then have played an increasingly active role in Sandown looking after planters and troughs about the town and organising regular beach and litter picks. Additionally, they take part in local community activities and in 2021 organised and fundraised for the addition of four large planters in Sandown High Street.
In thanking the High Sheriff for his kind words and the unexpected award, SGTV’s Chair, Christine Jackson, said the volunteers worked as a team with the aim of improving Sandown.
The Green Town Volunteers are always looking for new projects to enhance the town. This year, due to their efforts, Sandown is a national finalist in the RHS’s Britain in Bloom coastal town competition.

Just a shame that the so called HIGH SHERIFF can’t sort out all of the derelict and burnt down hotels along the complete embarrassment of which is called Sandown seafront and there mainland hedge fund corrupt owners.
Well done volunteers, but I honestly don’t know why you bother.
Well done to you all for keeping it lovely.
Ting ting from tooting if no one bothered it would eventually look like the derelict buildings with no love and care for it.
