The global media company Forbes, whose website receives some 52.7million monthly unique visits, has this week published an online article about the Isle of Wight, entitled ‘An Island Tour that Honours Winston Churchill’.
Used as a link to the forthcoming US presidential elections, the feature focuses on Winston Churchill and his connection with the Isle of Wight – in particular a new Churchill Trail launched earlier this year by Visit Isle of Wight (VIOW) in collaboration with Anthony Churchill to help guide visitors around ‘Winston’s Island’.
Following hard on the heels of the publication of a new book researched and written by Anthony Churchill – with a foreword by Winston’s great grandson Randolph Churchill – the trail highlights the family’s many and varied connections with the Isle of Wight, from the 17th century through to the present day.
Seen by VIOW as a way of bringing the Island’s past alive and providing more ways for visitors to explore Island towns, villages and attractions, the new trail visits 12 of the locations that have a connection with the family – the Churchills, Spencer-Churchills, Dukes of Marlborough, and American Jeromes – across the Island.
Journalist Tanya Mohn, a regular contributor to Forbes and The New York Times, contacted Visit Isle of Wight’s press office earlier this week. She was keen to write something about the Churchill Trail since receiving VIOW’s press release earlier this year.
Sue Emmerson, Press Officer for Visit Isle of Wight said:
“In terms of high-quality media coverage, it doesn’t get much better than Forbes. We’re delighted to say that coverage for the Churchill Trail doesn’t end there; next month The Independent on Sunday are visiting before featuring The Churchill Trail as the Walk of the Month.”
