Swimmer George Hayward has taken the Isle of Wight’s second medal at the Orkney 2025 Island Games – Silver in the 50m Backstroke.
George completed the race in 25.63, 1.2seconds behind Isle of Man gold medallist Harry Robinson (24.43) but around half-a-second ahead of Jersey’s Isaac Thompson (26.10), who took bronze.
In other events featuring Isle of Wight swimmers, the Men’s 4X50 metres Medley team of William Davidson, George Hayward, Harry Poynter and Benjamin Van der Helstraete came 5th in their final in a time of 1:47.42. The Women’s Freestyle team of Mylea Gobby, Isobel Muncaster, Grace Poynter and Skye Priede were 6th in their 4X50 metres final in 1:51.75.

Grace Poynter was 5th in the 50metres women’s Breaststroke final, with William Davidson also coming 5th in the 100metres men’s Breastroke event.

The Isle of Wight has got off to a spectacular start in golf with the Isle of Wight Ladies’ team – Sophie Beardsall, Lucy Burke, Caroline Johnson and Sammi Keen – leading Gotland by 7 strokes after the 1st round. Sophie Beardsall is currently in the gold medal position in the indididual event with a round of 76, leading 3 rival players with rounds of 77.

The Isle of Men’s golf team – George Foreman, Christopher Hayward, Conner Knight and Nathaniel Riddett – is in silver medal position after Round 1, trailing the Isle of Man by 2 strokes. In the individual event, Chris Hayward is in the silver medal position with Nath Riddett in bronze.
The Isle of Wight continues to set the pace in both sailing events, with Oliver Mayo leading the ICLA 6 event after 4 rounds, with 3 1st place and 1 2nd place finish. Arthur Farley is also in the gold medal spot in ICLA 7 after 4 straight wins. Fellow Isle of Wight sailor Harry Wight is close to a podium place in 4th position in ICLA 7.

The Isle of Wight badminton team have finished 7th in their discipline after a 3-0 victory over the Shetland Islands. Earlier in the day, they sufferred a narrow 2-3 defeat to host island Orkney.
The Isle of Wight’s women’s football team went down to a 0-2 defeat to Bermuda. Today (Tuesday), they face Jersey in their final game in the group stage of the competition.
The Isle of Wight have finished Day 3 of the Orkney 2025 in 15th place with 2 silver medals. The Faroe Islands lead the medals table with 33 podium places: 17 gold, 10 silver and 6 bronze medals.
