Isle of Wight indie rock band Five Degrees North have released their long-awaited new single ‘Red River’ ahead of a string of South Coast shows.
Isle of Wight band Five Degrees North have released their long-awaited new single, their first since performing on the Main Stage at the 2025 Isle of Wight Festival.
Although a staple in their live set for more than a year, Red River is available to stream today (Wednesday) on all platforms.
The track features guitarist and vocalist Will Morrison, drummer Louis ‘Linguini’ Marshall and brand new member Gabe Randall, who takes on lead guitar duties following the departure of bassist Michael Fuller.
Speaking about Michael leaving the band, Five Degrees North said:
“Michael has been with us for 4 years now but has made the tough decision to step down as our bassist. We completely support Michael in this decision and wish him the best in all future projects.”
To celebrate the release of Red River, Five Degrees North are hitting the road for a tour across the South Coast, with appearances at Newport’s Strings (16th April) and Triple A Records (18th April).
Speaking about the new single, the band added:
“Red River is about war in all its forms, not just the physical kind, but the battles people fight within themselves. It’s written from the perspective of someone caught in the middle of it all, whether that’s on a battlefield or inside their own mind. It’s about struggle, survival, and what it takes to keep going when everything around you feels like it’s falling apart.”
Five Degrees North’s new music comes after the announcement of major live appearances this summer.
The band will support former Kasabian singer Tom Meighan at his headline show at Robin Hill, on a line-up that also features 1990s hitmakers Echobelly and upcoming rock group The Bracknall.
In a first for the band, 5DN will make their debut festival headline slot at RECFEST in Fareham, the same month they are nominated for Indie/Rock Act of the Year at the annual Portsmouth Music Awards.
Five Degrees North formed in 2021 and have built up a loyal fanbase on the Isle of Wight. As winners of the 2025 Wight Noize competition, they went on to perform on the Main Stage at the Isle of Wight Festival.
During term time, the band are based in Brighton, where they attend university.
