A total of 4 disused farm barns situated within the Isle of Wight National Landscape could have new flexible commercial uses.
RW and JSW Fisk Partnership has lodged a prior approval application with County Hall for a change of use of existing agricultural buildings at Marsh Green Farm in Brighstone.
Proposed use classes include general industrial (B2), storage or distribution (B8), hotels (C1), commercial, business or service (E), outdoor sport or recreation (F2c) or for the provision of agricultural training.
The proposal fits with the government’s objective to support rural economic growth and to make it easier for farmers to strengthen and diversify their businesses, according to a Planning Statement from BCM Wilson Hill.
It says:
“National policy and permitted development rights strongly support the diversification and reuse of agricultural buildings.
“The site lies within a National Landscape; however, no external alterations are proposed and there will be no material change to the external appearance, built form, or visual impact of the buildings.
“The setting of nearby heritage assets will be preserved.”
No unacceptable impacts relating to highways, noise, contamination or flood risk will result from the proposal, the property specialists added.
The Isle of Wight Council’s public consultation on application 26/00385/3RPA closes on 27th April and a decision is due on 7th May.
